Position Overview Join us as an AmeriCorps VISTA member, where you will play a crucial role in supporting the Love Your Block grant program in Gary, IN - a city rich in history and cultural diversity, located just 30 miles from Chicago. Your primary focus will be on recruiting, training, and managing volunteers to actively participate in neighborhood revitalization efforts. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the community by empowering residents and fostering engagement. Key Responsibilities: Recruit and train volunteers for various community projects. Coordinate volunteer activities and manage project logistics. Organize community events to engage residents and promote neighborhood initiatives. Collaborate with local organizations to enhance outreach and support for revitalization efforts. Evaluate program effectiveness and suggest improvements based on feedback. Desired Attributes and Skills We are looking for candidates who possess: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A strong passion for community service and grassroots organizing. Experience in volunteer management or event planning. The ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Member Duties : Develop and implement strategies to recruit volunteers for Love Your Block projects through outreach to community organizations, schools, businesses, and residents. Collaborate with city officials and community leaders to identify volunteer needs in targeted neighborhoods. Organize training sessions to equip volunteers with the skills needed for effective contributions. Establish systems for tracking volunteer engagement, hours, and impact. Provide ongoing support to volunteers as their main contact for questions and feedback. Coordinate activities and appreciation events. Maintain partnerships with local stakeholders to promote volunteerism and community engagement. Collect data and prepare reports on recruitment, participation, and impact for evaluation and funding. Support the Love Your Block Fellow in outreach and create materials for mini-grant applications. Design flyers and social media posts to promote Love Your Block. Document activities through photos and quotes.
