2024 Habitat Sustainability Programming VISTA - La Crosse
 
 
 
The goal of the Habitat for Humanity of Wisconsin VISTA Program is to build a better Wisconsin by assisting local organizations increase capacity and sustainability for programs focused on alleviating poverty, while developing new leadership to help strengthen Wisconsin’s communities and move them “forward.” With passion, commitment, and hard work, our VISTAs help affiliates bring individuals & communities out of poverty. Located along the beautiful Mississippi River, Habitat for Humanity of the Greater La Crosse Region serves La Crosse, Vernon, and Trempealeau counties in western Wisconsin, and Houston County in Minnesota. HFH La Crosse has built over 40 homes since becoming an affiliate in 1992 and continues to improve housing conditions. Their mission is to bring people together to provide and preserve affordable housing opportunities and create a community where all feel they belong.

Member Duties : You’ll help to develop & manage sustainable programming targeted at low-income neighborhoods and households–introducing urban agriculture, establishing renewable energy solutions, installing stormwater mitigation practices, researching sustainable construction practices, and implementing educational opportunities–that will increase La Crosse’s impact on low-income housing, on a larger scale. 1) As part of the Sustainability Team, continue the ReNew the Block pilot project in the Logan Northside Neighborhood. 2) Plan and oversee the second annual Campus Dumpster Diversion event to help students and renters reduce the amount of waste generated at the end of the spring semester. 3) Coordinate with staff to research, develop, and implement sustainable construction practices on build sites. **Extra $100/month housing stipend. Interviews are done on a rolling basis. Please submit application as soon as possible to ensure consideration. Selection may be made before deadline date posted.**
