2024-25 New York State Maternal Health Coordinator VISTA
 
 
 
The New York State Maternal Health Project Coordinator VISTA assignment is hosted by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) Division of Child Welfare and Community Services in Rensselaer, NY and part of the New York State COVID-19 Response VISTA Project. OCFS serves New York's public by promoting the safety, permanency and well-being of our children, families and communities. The New York State Maternal Health Project Coordinator VISTA member will develop a sustainable project to address the disparities in maternal health experienced by BIPOC families by expanding collaboration with BIPOC maternal services networks to conduct research, pinpoint specific needs, and construct a pipeline to employment opportunities that support growing families in underserved communities. Relocation to Rensselaer, New York is required for this VISTA assignment. The project sponsor will provide the VISTA member an unlimited bus pass for transportation to and from OCFS and around the community.

Member Duties : • Conduct research and a needs assessment of BIPOC families experiencing negative maternal health outcomes. • Research the statistics on maternal mortality rates. • Identify the gaps in service and work collaboratively with team to create policies and programs to address. • Identify resources for impacted communities. • Develop gameplan to create pipeline for creation doula career path. • Collaborate with other state agencies and community organizations to build a pipeline of support for BIPOC families experiencing negative maternal health outcomes. • Develop educational materials, training opportunities, and fiscal resources in collaboration with internal and external partners. • Present findings and policy recommendations to leadership of OCFS Division of Child Welfare and Community Services.
