2024-25 NYS Adult Education Research Coordinator VISTA
 
 
 
The New York State Adult Education Research Coordinator VISTA assignment is hosted by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) Adult Education Program and Policy Office (AEPP) in Albany, NY and part of the New York State COVID-19 Response VISTA Project. The mission of NYSED AEPP is to promote, develop, and support adult education programs with the goal of providing adult students with successful pathways and transitions to post-secondary education, apprenticeship training, and the workforce. To help ensure that more New Yorkers are able to successfully enter the workforce, the Adult Education Research Coordinator VISTA project will build the capacity of NYSED AEPP by assessing and reporting the state of Adult Education programs and General Educational Development (GED) exam, creating tools and resources based on best practices, and developing recommendations to improve adult education and GED preparation programs to ensure more New Yorkers can successfully enter the workforce. Relocation to Albany, New York is required for this VISTA assignment. The VISTA member may teleserve up to and including full-time from their residence in the Albany, NY area.

Member Duties : 1) Assess and report the current state of New York's GED passing rates and AEPP funded programs by • analyzing data for each program, region and statewide pass/fail areas of the GED exams content areas, • generating graphical reports from data analysis • tracking and analyzing the impact of professional development implemented to increase GED Passing rates, and • identifying ways to track and assess effectiveness of teacher professional development trainings 2) Identify and share best practices with Adult Education Programs to increase passage rates of the GED exam in New York by • facilitating meetings and discussion groups with Adult Education Programs to identify best practices and • developing assessment tools and resources to help Adult Education Programs improve passing rates. 3) Develop and present recommendations and strategies to improve adult education and GED preparation programs for NYSED AEPP and partners.
