UACE Tucson Village Farm Educator

Tucson Village Farm (TVF) is a seed-to-table program designed to reconnect young people to a healthy food system, teach them how to grow and prepare fresh food, and empower them to make healthy life choices. A program of the Pima County Cooperative Extension and the University of Arizona, TVF is a work-ing urban farm and healthy living center that fosters life and leadership skills in young people through agri-culture, culinary education, outdoor adventure opportunities, and community engagement. The vision of TVF is to cultivate healthy lifestyles, wellness, resilience, and sustainability in young people, empowering them to be contributing members of their communities. The farm educator position will have the member serving in an urban farmer and educator role, assisting with the growing and cultivation of crops, training and leading volunteers to maintain our 8 acre farm, serv-ing at our market to educate the public about the crops that we grow, and teaching youth and adults how to grow, care for, and harvest farm veggies. This position is ideal for someone who wants to work outdoors with volunteers, kids and families in an arid, dry environment; planting, harvesting, cultivating, weeding, and growing over 300 varieties of vegetables with and for the Tucson community. Serving at Tucson Village Farm and the 4-H Healthy Living Center a member has the opportunity to engage in a variety of tasks. From growing our plant starts, to teaching volunteers how to weed or amend a field to showing kids how to plant a seed. A member serving here needs to want to work hard, enjoy interacting with volunteers of all ages, be flexible and have a willingness to be a team player. Members will receive training in arid land food production, integrated pest management, orchard maintenance and growth, har-vesting techniques, planting strategies and seasonality, and so much more!
