VISTA Community Coordinator for Outreach to the Unhoused
 
 
 
This position is based at Trinity United Methodist Church in Tallahassee, FL. As a VISTA, you will research activities and successes of other church-led efforts throughout Florida and the nation to address our unhoused neighbors’ needs. You will write a report on the programs that can inform our program in Tallahassee, and you will contact successful programs for successful consultation, You will contact other Tallahassee churches and organizations in the Downtown area (library, food services, etc.) to join the effort. You will make a list of possible churches to include in our program. You will help contact the churches and set up potential additions outside of churches. You will help plan an event for the expanded group, such as a half-day conference, a luncheon with those currently experiencing homelessness, a symposium of interfaith leaders, etc. You will develop a list of services that churches can initiate or supplement existing programs. You will also develop a priority list and timeline for additional services/programs the churches can provide. You will help educate our church members and the community on the realities of living without housing and organizing volunteers to help. You will communicate with local media outlets, develop a template for how churches can educate their congregations on homelessness, launch a social media program to educate younger church members and others on the realities of living without housing, and reach out to campus groups at FSU and FAMU to engage them on our efforts.
