*MCVP – YWCA Missoula

The goal of this VISTA project is to increase comprehensive and holistic support for low-income or homeless families by assessing and improving the partnerships, policies, and training at the YWCA to increase the effectiveness of housing and wraparound services. With the growing population of Missoula City and County, increasing rates of poverty and increasing crime rates, the need for YWCA housing and domestic violence services is greater than ever before. As the primary provider of shelter and supportive services to homeless families and women seeking shelter from domestic violence, the YWCA has seen the domestic violence shelter serve nearly 20% more individuals than the previous year, and a 26% percent increase from two years ago. Across the board, the YWCA’s family housing center, peer to peer crisis counseling, and all related housing and wraparound services have increased year over year in the last two years. The YWCA’s primary goal is that people leave their programs better able to tackle challenges and take advantage of opportunities through utilizing resources available to them, which they achieve through promoting empowerment and resilience with trauma informed programming. This VISTA project will move low-income women and their children out of poverty by deepening collaborations and partnerships across the community to provide them with more holistic and comprehensive support.
