24-25 UCA WIRE Rural Middle School Support

At Umpqua Community College, we are looking for an upbeat person who loves working with 6-12th grade middle school students. The Work-based Integration into Rural Education (WIRE) program is aimed at helping rural students explore careers and be introduced to the college processes. The AmeriCorps member will spend most of their time in identified middle schools 6-8th grade to connect with rural youth, introduce career professionals to give students a hands- on approach to exploration, and assist the director as needed. The focus is to support staff and students by providing mentoring and facilitation of educational workshops. The AmeriCorps member will also assist with events to encourage youth enroll in programs and will help support learning events and summer camps. United Communities AmeriCorps (UCA) partners with local organizations to host members in meaningful service projects to meet critical needs in SW Oregon. UCA projects improve access to community programs in project focus areas of Education, Economic Opportunity and Healthy Futures. Members engage clients in their dedicated service project, and then use their experience to recruit, retain, and support community volunteers. Members serve full-time for 11 months, totaling 1,700 hours for the term of service. Our positions have benefits (education award, monthly stipend, training opportunities, etc). For more information and position descriptions, visit: www.ucancap.org/americorps. Interviews are conducted on a rolling basis as qualified candidates are identified. Selection may be made prior to the application deadline. Early application is strongly encouraged.
