24-25 UCAN Afterschool Program Leader
 
 
 
Coquille Public Library is seeking an Afterschool Program Leader who is a pro-active, creative, and service-oriented, enthusiastic about providing library service to children, with an emphasis on early literacy program planning, community engagement, STREAM, and relationship building with families and community. Knowledge of emerging technologies, education, and trends in youth development and/or libraries are a must. This position is responsible for planning and implementing a sustainable afterschool program for 2nd – 6th grade students, under the supervision of the library director. The position has planning and goal setting responsibilities as part of a group. UCAN AmeriCorps partners with local organizations like the Coquille Public Library to host members in meaningful service projects to meet critical needs in SW Oregon. UCAN projects improve access to community programs in project focus areas of Education, Economic Opportunity and Healthy Futures. Members engage clients in their dedicated service project, and then use their experience to recruit, retain, and support community volunteers. Members serve full-time for 8 months, totaling 1,200 hours for the term of service. Our positions have benefits (education award, monthly stipend, training opportunities, etc). Member Duties : • Develop and maintain effective relationships with elementary schools to plan and deliver programs. • Plan and implement an afterschool program focused on STREAM learning for 2nd – 6th grade students. • Plan and implement a passive program environment for children of all ages on Saturdays between the hours of 10 - 2. • Serve as the go-to person for the AWE Learning machines in the Children’s Library. • Contribute to a positive work environment by demonstrating compassion for the library’s users and other employees; respect for library user privacy and confidentiality; an eagerness to learn and an optimistic attitude. • Implement and/or develop systems to inform Volunteer Management Goals. • Complete and submit all necessary UCA paperwork and reports in a timely manner. • Attend and complete all UCA training and service requirements including orientation, trainings, team meetings, and National Days of Service (Make a Difference Day, MLK Jr. Day, and a June Service Event).
