24-25 Lake County - Housing Action Corps - Homelessness

The Homeless Continuum of Care VISTA will serve with Lake County and the Lake County Coalition for the Homeless (LCCH) in Libertyville, IL from August 2024-2025. Lake County and LCCH are part of the Housing Action Corps, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. Housing Action Corps members receive custom training, support, and networking opportunities in housing and community development, in addition to the traditional benefits of AmeriCorps VISTA. Learn more: housingactionil.org/americorps. Nearly 1000 people in Lake County experience homelessness each year. Lake County staffs the efforts of the Lake County Coalition for the Homeless’ (LCCH), which unites 20 member agencies to end homelessness through collaboration, capacity building, and system change. The Homeless Continuum of Care VISTA will build the capacity and effectiveness of Lake County’s homeless response system by magnifying the voices of those with lived experience, fundraising to create access to trainings for LCCH members, and coordinating events for the Landlord Engagement Work Group to grow Lake County’s housing stock. If you're passionate about social services, homelessness, and housing, and possess strong communication and organizational skills, this is your opportunity to contribute to a community-driven effort to end homelessness in Lake County! Our ideal candidate has experience working with social service agencies and an interest in homelessness, poverty and housing. They should demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, be organized, and work well independently.

Member Duties : LCCH has had tremendous success in reducing chronic and veteran homelessness in Lake County, but we need to continue and expand our efforts to reach our goal of ending homelessness in our community. The VISTA will facilitate meetings to collect input from people with lived experience of homelessness and coordinate compensation for their participation.
