24-25 Housing Forward - Housing Action Corps - Stewardship
 
 
 
The Community Outreach & Stewardship VISTA will serve with Housing Forward in Maywood, IL from August 2024-2025. Housing Forward is part of the Housing Action Corps, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. Housing Action Corps members receive custom training, support, and networking opportunities in housing and community development, in addition to the traditional benefits of AmeriCorps VISTA. Housing Forward is a leading organization assisting individuals and families in west suburban Cook County who are experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. Our mission is to transition people from housing crisis to housing stability. We build a community to help address homelessness at all levels, and local partnerships are vital to our work. The Community Outreach & Stewardship VISTA will build relationships with and educate community partners–including congregations and local governments–on how to get involved in a community system to help neighbors experiencing housing crises. They will collaborate with multiple teams and VISTAs to research, develop, and implement an outreach and engagement plan. Our ideal candidate is outgoing, enjoys interacting with people, and builds relationships easily. They should have strong communication, organization, and computer skills. The candidate should enjoy collaborating with a dedicated team, but also able to work independently and without daily supervision. This position offers a $400 monthly stipend.

Member Duties : Our 30 years of experience demonstrates that a coordinated approach to addressing the housing crisis should include organizations from a variety of sectors (local government, faith communities, businesses, schools, community organizations, etc.). By the end of their service, the Community Outreach and Stewardship VISTA will develop and implement a community outreach plan to initiate and maintain engagement with diverse partners and stakeholders in Housing Forward’s 26-community service area. They will build and maintain an outreach tracking system, as well as collaborate with other VISTAs to create an impact report to better understand the housing needs in our communities.
