24-25 DeKalb County HFH - Housing Action Corps - Outreach

The Community Outreach VISTA will serve with Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County in Sycamore, IL from August 2024-2025. Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County is part of the Housing Action Corps, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. Housing Action Corps members receive custom training, support, and networking opportunities in housing and community development, in addition to the traditional benefits of AmeriCorps VISTA. Learn more: housingactionil.org/americorps. Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County partners with local families to build affordable homes in DeKalb County, Illinois. Families receive financial education, contribute hundreds of hours to build or renovate a home, and pay an affordable mortgage. Volunteers and local partnerships are vital to our mission of increasing affordable housing in our community. The Community Outreach VISTA will enhance our ability to recruit, manage, and retain volunteers, while expanding partnerships with nonprofit organizations, faith communities, and colleges. They will also identify and implement new strategies for grant funding, donor outreach, and marketing. We are looking for a go-getter who is self-motivated and understands the importance of volunteers when it comes to a nonprofit organization. Our ideal candidate is detail-oriented and a great communicator.

Member Duties : Housing affordability has declined to a 10-year low in our region due to rising home prices, increased lending rates, and inflation. By building the capacity of our Volunteer Program and growing Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County’s revenue, we will be able to continue expanding our programs and provide safe, affordable housing to more families. The Community Outreach VISTA will explore the volunteer, marketing, and donation programs currently in place, identifying best practices and available resources. They will create and implement plans for documenting and expanding our volunteer recruitment, marketing, and donor outreach. By the end of service, they will evaluate these initiatives and develop recommendations for sustaining the projects with staff and volunteer support.
