24-25 Lake County HFH - Housing Action Corps - Engagement
 
 
 
The Community Engagement Specialist will serve with Habitat for Humanity Lake County in Gurnee, IL from August 2024-2025. Habitat for Humanity Lake County is part of the Housing Action Corps, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. Housing Action Corps members receive custom training, support, and networking opportunities in housing and community development, in addition to the traditional benefits of AmeriCorps VISTA. Learn more: housingactionil.org/americorps. Habitat for Humanity Lake County brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Inspired by a vision where everyone has a safe, affordable place to live, we seek to improve the well-being of individuals and families and interrupt generational cycles of poverty in Lake County through homeownership. The Community Engagement Specialist will help recruit new volunteers, build relationships with previous volunteers and community partners, and increase our engagement with local events. They will identify new outreach opportunities, enhance our volunteer engagement strategies, and improve the volunteer experience at multiple construction sites throughout the year. Our ideal candidate is a self-starter who takes initiative and challenges themselves to learn more and tackle new opportunities–whether that be in conversation with volunteers, or while finding ways to enhance our communication and scheduling practices. They should be eager to interact with others, both individually and in large groups. Openness to feedback is also ideal, along with an authentic desire to make a difference in their community. This position offers a $300 monthly stipend.

Member Duties : Since 1989, Habitat for Humanity Lake County has made an astounding impact in our local communities by building over 200 safe, affordable new homes in Lake County. Our success has much to do with the 70,000+ volunteers who have worked on construction sites alongside our staff and Partner Families. The Community Engagement Specialist will collaborate with our Community Engagement Manager to recruit and retain volunteers, with a focus on improving the quality of volunteer experiences to encourage continued support. The VISTA will improve our current processes and create new systems when necessary to improve our volunteer program. They will implement communication practices, organize and manage volunteer data tracking, and participate in community engagement opportunities to raise awareness and recruit new volunteers in our community.
