24-25 GPCC - Housing Action Corps - Data

The Data and Evaluation Associate will serve with Garfield Park Community Council in Chicago, IL from August 2024-2025. Garfield Park Community Council (GPCC) is part of the Housing Action Corps, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. Housing Action Corps members receive custom training, support, and networking opportunities in housing and community development, in addition to the traditional benefits of AmeriCorps VISTA. Learn more: housingactionil.org/americorps. GPCC is a community-building organization made up of dedicated residents and allies working together to develop leaders and create opportunities and programs that build a vital Garfield Park community. The project will serve the community areas of East and West Garfield Park, two of the most economically and socially distressed communities in Chicago. The Data and Evaluation Associate will collect, manage, and analyze data to measure, integrate, and expand the GPCC’s housing programs. The position will interface with community volunteers, partners, and organizational staff to create innovative programs and community investment opportunities. Our ideal candidate is a swift learner who can work on a variety of projects. They must collaborate easily with diverse groups of people, including Garfield Park residents and GPCC staff. Experience with research and data analysis, housing services, or development is preferred but not required. Garfield Park is a primarily and historically an African American community, and the Garfield Park Community Council seeks AmeriCorps members who display a commitment to racial equity and inclusion.

Member Duties : GPCC currently offers housing counseling, works to reoccupy vacant homes through the Micro Market Recovery Program (MMRP), offers emergency housing support, and owns a 40-unit affordable senior housing building, but these services are not enough to meet the vast affordable housing needs in Chicago’s West Side. The Data and Evaluation Associate will use data management and community engagement to promote, integrate, and expand our housing programs. The Associate will analyze data and provide recommendations for GPCC to preserve or acquire at-risk properties, as well as support the research and development of community wealth-building or other shared ownership models for the acquisition of 1-3 2-4 unit properties. They will collaborate with GPCC staff to create systems and materials for outreach about our housing programs. By the end of service, they will evaluate and enhance GPCC’s programs to engage more partners and residents in our community.
