EngageCorps VISTA at The College of New Jersey

Bridge to Employment (BTE) is a 2-year program following students from their sophomore year in high school to graduation. With BTE groups established across 5 continents, students who join BTE gain access to a global network. The goal of the program is to allow students to explore careers in STEM2D (Science, Technology Engineering, Math, Manufacturing, and Design) & healthcare fields, in addition to guiding them through the college application process. BTE provides students an avenue to grow as individuals within their community and build their resumes with volunteer experience as well. In partnership with Johnson & Johnson Janssen Pharmaceuticals, FHI 360, TCNJ Bonner Institute, and Trenton Central High School, the program provides mentorship and guidance to students while in the program and beyond.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will primarily support the Bonner Institute with bi-weekly training for college students in addition to supporting the development and implantation of the Bridge to Employment program. All of this will be with the support of the Site Coordinator. This project directly fulfills the anti-poverty goals because we work with first-generation college and high school students. Studies have shown that individuals with a high education are more likely to not be in poverty.
