The Women’s Resource Development VISTA, OneStar

The Women's Resource (TWR), located in Harris County, Texas, is dedicated to empowering Houston-area women and girls to achieve independence, productivity, and financial stability. Serving over 2,000 individuals annually, TWR focuses on those within the low to moderate income range, aiming to mitigate the challenges of unemployment and underemployment through comprehensive financial literacy programs. The AmeriCorps VISTA member at TWR will play an important role in amplifying the organization's capacity to fundraise, which is crucial for the expansion of its financial literacy initiatives. Through supporting major fundraising events, refining the fundraising infrastructure, and identifying strategies to enhance volunteer donation rates, the VISTA member will contribute to TWR's goal of creating sustainable financial literacy opportunities for its clients. These efforts are aimed at addressing and alleviating the cycle of poverty by equipping women and girls with essential financial skills, such as budgeting, saving, credit repair, and long-term financial planning. In addition to fundraising, the VISTA member’s responsibilities will encompass tracking and nurturing funder relationships and identifying new, lasting revenue streams to support the expansion of TWR's programming. By streamlining processes and ensuring the sustainability of these initiatives, the VISTA member will leave a lasting impact on the organization and the community it serves. On average, the VISTA member will serve in-person one day a week, and will teleserve 4 days a week. Additional days in-person may be required depending on the time of year and event planning.
