PHENND Fellows-Community Building Liaison VISTA

For 17 years, Feast of Justice has supported households experiencing poverty and food insecurity in Northeast Philadelphia through food and resource assistance. We are located in one of the most diverse zip codes in the Commonwealth and are the section of Philadelphia with the highest growing poverty rate. The community needs our support–and to that end, we serve 3000 unique households as one of the largest food providers in the city—distributing nearly one million pounds of food each year. But, beyond food, we work to connect our guests to resources that can help to break poverty’s grip, and to transform the community by engaging it in the work of healing. Feast of Justice is dedicated to our vision of a world in which food security, life skills, and a supportive community abounds for all. This is particularly important as we have recently increased our footprint at a new site in a new community with six other agencies in a service hub to provide hope in even broader ways

Member Duties : The overall goal of the PHENND Fellow VISTA is to build capacity to create positive long-term outcomes in our community that go beyond food and nutrition security. They will do so through building community–both with those whom we serve as well as the other providers, partners, and agencies in the communities of Northeast Philadelphia. Specifically, the VISTA member will: 1) use surveys and other methods to understand the non-food needs of our community; 2) build relationships with local agencies, partners, and providers to develop collaborative opportunities to strengthen social determinants of health; 3) work with the Resource Coordinator to develop a sustainable structure for onsite community engagement opportunities.
