MCNCE Soft Landing Missoula Summer
 
 
 
The Soft Landing Missoula (SLM) youth program aims to create opportunities for success, emotional and physical wellbeing, and social engagement for refugee and immigrant youth in Missoula, Montana. By developing and offering a range of services for youth, SLM aims to create an environment and community space where these clients have access to academic, social, and recreational opportunities that support positive social determinants of health. SLM offers after school academic mentoring, college access support, and summer programming as well as social and recreational opportunities for elementary, middle, high school, and college refugee students. Soft Landing's Youth Program priorities are to: provide academic support to middle and high school students during the school year; provide summer programming and events to engage youth with priority given to 4-8th grade, new arrivals age k-young adult, elementary students, high school students, young adults; provide social and recreational opportunities throughout the school year with priority given to middle school students, high school students, elementary students, young adults; and provide academic support and guidance to those wishing to pursue and actively enrolled in higher education. Montana Campus Network for Civic Engagement (MCNCE) serves as the intermediary for this project. MCNCE is a CEO-led coalition of colleges and universities that support civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism across the state. Every year we place cohorts of full-time, part-time, and summer AmeriCorps members with schools, colleges, nonprofits, and government agencies in Montana. The AmeriCorps projects we facilitate increase educational equity, break down barriers between higher education and community organizations, and address the root causes of poverty in communities across the state.

Member Duties : Join Soft Landing Missoula's youth program team to provide free and accessible educational and recreational activities for refugee youth throughout the summer! Members will help plan and organize activities, recruit and work with volunteers, provide transportation and logistical support, and interact with and mentor refugee youth. Summer activities may include mountain biking, swimming, whitewater rafting, mentorship groups, science programs, English classes, and overnight trips!
