PHENND Fellows-Persistence Fellow VISTA

Since 1985, the Philadelphia Education Fund (PEF) has been a regional leader in addressing educational inequities through its comprehensive and evolving portfolio of direct-service, systems-level, and online programming. Its six embedded College Access Programs (CAP) directly provide post-secondary preparation and guidance to more than 1,700 low-income and first-generation Philadelphia public high school students annually. Over the years, CAP-involved students have consistently completed FAFSA, obtained high school diplomas, and pursued post-secondary education at higher rates than their peers. Additionally, PEF operates the Philadelphia Scholars program, the single largest non-university-based scholarship program in the city. Each year, it awards more than half a million dollars in gap-filling funds to College Access alumni who demonstrate financial need.

Member Duties : In spite of robust programming at the high school level and scholarship support in college, many CAP graduates still face challenges during their college journeys that inhibit degree attainment. In this third and final year of the project, the PEF Persistence Fellow VISTA will build on a foundation of research and pilot testing to fortify our new postsecondary persistence framework. Specific responsibilities include: -Support the postsecondary team with the first year of implementation of the new postsecondary database, CoPilot, to track student engagement, manage communications, and parse trends -Finalize and test model of time-bound college persistence interventions to be implemented by PEF staff and managed through the new database -Develop creative and engaging communications campaigns to drive student participation in persistence events/workshops -Cultivate community and volunteer partners to accomplish long-term programmatic goals
