AmeriCorps VISTA - The Haven of Portage County

We are an autonomous faith-based organization that is a rescue mission and warming center in Portage County that addresses each stage of homelessness and provides holistic healing through the power of the gospel. Our vision is that The Haven of Portage County is a place where the vulnerable can find not only a meal and a bed, but also hope and long-term healing. We provide a clean and safe environment as an overnight shelter with meals, showers, laundry services and basic personal accessories such as hygiene items, pajamas, and underwear. We coordinate efforts with community services such as Ohio Means Jobs, rehabilitation programs, housing programs, mental health assistance, and spiritual guidance when requested.

Member Duties : Homelessness is a complex and multifaceted problem affecting individuals across diverse backgrounds. In this role, you will develop and expand services for individuals experiencing homelessness in Portage County, improving access to shelter, healthcare, and support services. Mapping local resources, you will identify barriers to service and promote pathways to stable housing. You will form and strengthen partnerships with volunteers, local government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and community stakeholders, growing our organization’s ability to collaborate in addressing the needs of the homeless population. Spreading awareness and sourcing funding for our mission, you will rally the community to partake in this work. Finally, your role will improve our intake and data management systems, ensuring our clients experiencing homelessness are empowered and receive optimal services. Join our cause today!
