PHENND Fellows-Artist Sustainability Program Coordinator

For over 40 years, CFEVA has continued to provide career development and mentoring services to the working artists of Philadelphia. We do this through fellowships, residencies, educational outreach, exhibitions, professional development, and city-wide events. CFEVA provides artists with the funding and networking needed to develop sustainable careers -- all while deepening the public’s awareness and understanding of visual arts in greater Philadelphia. Between now and 2026, CFEVA has two main goals towards equity and sustainability for artists. One is to increase our capacity to directly fund the work of local artists, many of whom live at or near poverty level. The other is to remove any implied or actual barriers to artist participation in CFEVA’s programs. Philadelphia is home to the largest number of art students per capita, yet loses many graduates to either the lower cost of living of some cities or the larger art markets of others. CFEVA aims to help our great creative minds stay in Philadelphia and contribute to their vibrant communities. The VISTA will assist CFEVA staff in the research and development phase of a draft plan towards CFEVA earning certification through the national W.A.G.E (Working Artists for the Greater Economy) Program, which publicly recognizes the contribution of artists as the critical cultural producers who deserve a fair wage for their artwork. The VISTA will play an important role in our small but mighty organization, and take part in all the work we do for our network of artists in every corner of the city. This can include working with us on our other core activities such as event planning, exhibition installation, and art studio visits.

Member Duties : The VISTA will work with CFEVA to continue outreach within the arts community, gathering documentation of the needs of artists and the organizations that support them in Philadelphia as we work towards meeting the standards for the W.A.G.E. program, putting more funding directly in the hands of artists to develop their work. The challenge of any non-profit is to remain financially stable while increasing its charitable work in its community. To remove any implied or actual barriers to artists’ participation with CFEVA’s programs, we must inspire support from corporate, foundation and individual donors to remove any cost burden to CFEVA’s career development programs for artists. Therefore, the VISTA will also assist in fundraising initiatives including event planning, direct mail campaigns, and art sales. There will also be opportunities to engage in our programs such as exhibition installations and visits to artist studios.
