New Orleans Department of Homeland Security VISTA

NOLA Ready is the City of New Orleans' Emergency Preparedness Campaign, which shares information with New Orleans residents, businesses, and community groups about how to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. In addition to crisis communications and year-round community outreach, this team manages the NOLA Ready Volunteer Corps which supports on-the-ground emergency operations and resilience efforts. The VISTA project will support NOLA Ready’s efforts to better prepare New Orleans’ low-income, black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC), Latinx, Vietnamese, elderly, and disabled communities for future disasters by researching and developing new and innovative initiatives. This role will be primarily based in research, project development, grant research and writing, and cross-team collaboration. In grey skies and blue skies, VISTAs will learn about emergency preparedness in formal settings (ex: trainings) and informal settings (ex: during planning sessions or response). VISTAs also have the opportunity to network and collaborate with leaders in the disaster space as well as with community leaders.
