City of New Orleans - Racial Equity Programs VISTA

The New Orleans Mayor’s Office of Human Rights and Equity (OHRE) is the voice for human rights and social justice in New Orleans City Hall. The OHRE is situated to assist the analysis and action required to achieve an equitable process and improve the quality of life for underserved residents and residents of color, ensuring all members of our New Orleans community can thrive. The VISTA project will work with the OHRE to develop and implement equitable programs through partnership development, community engagement, resource development and accessibility, and outreach. Such programs include but are not limited to implementing a municipal ID program for residents facing obstacles to obtaining a state ID, establishing New Orleans’ member status as a ‘Welcoming America city’, initiating the Mayors for Guaranteed Income program, and the Language Access Plan. Beginning their service by accompanying the OHRE at the Policy Link Equity Summit in Atlanta Georgia, The VISTA will gain experience within a public office working towards equitable programming in one of the most vibrant and diverse cities in the United States.
