Local Farm Foods Coordinator VISTA

The Local Farm Foods Coordinator VISTA will work closely with PEP's Executive Director to develop, plan, and implement a farm-to-school program, and educational resources, and tools to enable local food producers to distribute food locally to beneficiaries who need it most. Park County is comprised of 17% private lands which primarily are dedicated to agricultural crop and livestock production to feed people. Despite the proximity and quantity of food locally produced, the area and state lack the infrastructure, systems, processes, etc. to distribute locally produced food to schools, daycares, and community centers to meet essential food needs. The Foods VISTA will build PEP’s capacity to plan, implement, and sustain a farm-to-school type program in Powell. Their activities will include conducting a assessment of the nutritional needs and resources that exist currently; what resources, processes and policies are missing to make a farm to school-type program work; and will formulate a plan to address the gaps. Successive VISTA years will focus on addressing gaps, program implementation, program evaluation and sustainability. The Foods VISTA position is one of five positions in the Intermediary VISTA Program managed by PEP in Park County WY. PEP (Powell Economic Partnership) is an economic development non-profit in Northwest WY, that seeks to improve the quality of life and economic stability of the Powell Valley and Park County. Committing to a year in PEP's VISTA program is a life-changing opportunity to experience a beautiful area, gain valuable work experience and professional development, while serving with a team of like-minded people. Each of PEP's positions is located at a partner organization in Park County, WY working on a project that builds the capacity of the VISTA site, while also bolstering the overall northwest Wyoming economy.
