City of Birmingham Mayor's Initiative

The City of Birmingham Mayor's Initiative VISTA program's primary focus is on tackling the multifaceted challenges of poverty by addressing issues related to infrastructure, health, education, and economic growth within vulnerable demographics in Birmingham. Aligned with the Mayor's strategic plan for neighborhood revitalization, VISTA members are strategically placed in different city departments with the primary responsibilities of understanding and evaluating the current organizational structure, activities, plans, and resources of their sites of service; identifying the needs of citizens, communities, and neighborhoods currently being served by their sites of service; and discovering opportunities, methods, and imaginative solutions to increase the capacity of these sites to offer better services and programming that help alleviate the effects of poverty and have a positive effect on the citizens of Birmingham.
