Ending Hunger Corps Greater Brunswick Ending Hunger VISTA

Work with one of Maine’s largest hunger relief organizations and play a vital role in the community to end hunger in Maine by 2030! As part of the Ending Hunger Corps, this position bolsters a strong partnership between MCHPP and SMCC - Brunswick where the VISTA can live for free on campus! MCHPP’s mission is to offer dignity and empowerment by providing all members of our community with access to healthy food. As part of a cohort working to end hunger across the state of Maine the Greater Brunswick Ending Hunger VISTA will spearhead evaluation efforts to improve and expand MCHPP programming. They will continue to improve the partnership with SMCC Brunswick’s Captain’s Cupboard (food pantry), and they will work to expand community member access to healthy foods and recipes. Along with the free housing at SMCC - Brunswick MCHPP offers food resources. The VISTA will live in Brunswick supporting the greater community through MCHPP’s expansive countywide programs. Food insecurity exists not because of a lack of food, but because of poverty. MCHPP is committed to helping people access free food in order to spend their resources on other necessities and niceties. The VISTA’s year long efforts will expand access and improve services building the capacity and sustainability of MCHPP’s programs

Member Duties : The Greater Brunswick Ending Hunger VISTA will work closely with MCHPP’s program staff to expand and improve their services in an effort to offer more food with minimal barriers to more families in need. The VISTA will research, develop, and implement strategies to evaluate MCHPP’s programming, both internal collaboration across programs and external services for community members accessing food. The VISTA will continue the work of strengthening SMCC Brunswick’s Captain’s Cupboard to meet the growing needs of students by identifying and training potential volunteers. MCHPP is excited about a potential partnership with the local hospital to offer a pantry for its patients and staff; the VISTA would lead the implementation effort. Finally, MCHPP hopes the VISTA will increase community member access to healthy food and recipes by spearheading SNAP enrollment efforts and developing educational tools to promote healthy eating
