Fighting Poverty with Library Resources: Digital Equity

The Maine State Library (MSL), located in Augusta, Maine, invites you to join our exciting team as the Digital Equity and Online Library Resource Capacity Builder. Grow your skills and your network as we create a meaningful, lasting impact in Maine together! MSL and its partners, the Maine Connectivity Authority and the National Digital Equity Center, seek a creative capacity builder to improve digital equity, and increase digital skills and workforce development in 9 target counties in Maine. This project will allow you to put your skills to work—and gain new ones—to innovatively build capacity for Digital Maine Library (DML), the statewide platform of subscription online library resources. DML needs an ambassador to promote the service and train librarians, workforce development experts, and other stakeholders on its resources. It also needs an ongoing evaluation, along with a review of its structure to ensure that it’s user friendly and accessible. The Digital Navigator program that teaches digital skills needs a capacity builder to recruit libraries to be training sites, recruit volunteers to help, and train volunteers and librarians. You can also make a huge difference in increasing digital equity by training librarians to complete the Affordable Connectivity Program application so that they can promote the program in their communities and help patrons apply for it. Build capacity for digital equity infrastructure by serving on state level committees; promoting public libraries as hubs for digital equity resources and training; and supporting statewide digital equity events and projects. This is a great opportunity to build varied skills and a statewide network of library, workforce development, and technology professionals! Receive rich professional development through varied trainings and conferences. And most importantly, have the opportunity to make a significant impact in fighting poverty and increasing digital equity throughout the state.
