City Colleges of Chicago_ VISTA

City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), the largest community college system in Illinois, is made up of seven colleges and five satellite sites, providing more than 70,000 students each year access to a quality, affordable education. CCC’s mission is to deliver exceptional learning opportunities and educational services for diverse student populations in Chicago. We enhance knowledge, understanding, skills, collaboration, community service and life-long learning by providing a broad range of quality, affordable courses, programs, and services to prepare students for success in a technologically advanced and increasingly interdependent global society. CCC works to proactively eliminate barriers to employment and to address and overcome casual factors underlying socio-economic disparities and inequities of access and graduation in higher education. The VISTA project will seek to provide community members with post-high school education support to improve college readiness and ultimately benefit low-income communities. VISTA members will contribute to the goals of the project by cultivating relationships with CCC students, staff and faculty; build partnerships with local organizations; develop a pipeline of support between CCC students and local organizations to foster a culture of volunteerism that would mutually benefit the student and partner organization over the course of a year.
