Family Navigation and Peer Support
 
 
 
notMYkid AmeriCorps members serve as Family Navigators and Certified Peer Supports in Maricopa County providing our community with education, referrals, and resources. The Family Navigators AmeriCorps members help families access and navigate the behavioral healthcare system and impact their lives to support healthier futures for their families. The Certified Peer Supports provide peer support services for youth experiencing substance use disorder or mental health challenges and inspires youth to have hope, develop self-advocacy skills, and build healthy relationships.

Member Duties : Members who serve as Family Navigators will provide education, guidance, resources. They will assist families in navigating the mental/behavioral healthcare system, connect families to NMK program and services, refer families to outside services when necessary. Members who serve as Peer Support promote hope and acceptance by sharing their story of lived experience and help to increase perception of harm of drugs including opioid and prescription misuse, increasing hope among youth who are struggling, and developing effective communication skills.
