2024-2025 DHC Health Equity Outreach VISTA

DuPage Health Coalition believes access to affordable health care is an essential human need, allowing everyone in our community to be healthy enough to work, care for their families and live life with a little less worry. The Health Equity Outreach VISTA will increase capacity by helping to launch two new DHC programs (Project Lifesaver and Access Fit) and refining social media strategy; Focusing on developing sustainable approaches that can be adopted by DHC staff at the end of service. All outputs will help alleviate damaging consequences of poverty and aid DHC efforts to reduce health insecurity of low- income DuPage County residents. All efforts will be grounded in best practice research and data analysis, ultimately supporting DHC’s mission to open doors to high-quality, affordable healthcare for our low income neighbors. Activities will expand community knowledge, resources, and programming and increase the scale, reach, and effectiveness of DHC’s communications strategies thus increasing health security for low-income DuPage residents which otherwise puts everyone at risk as lack of high-quality affordable healthcare can both trap people in systemic poverty and risk lives that could otherwise be saved.

Member Duties : Recognizing that much of what effects health happens outside the Doctor’s office, DHC is poised to launch two new initiatives, Project Lifesaver (a health equity focused program delivering bystander CPR, installing AEDs, providing opioid use disorder curriculum as well as naloxone training and home kits) and Access Fit DuPage (a diverse fitness network offering low/no cost wellness services to low income DuPage County residents). The Health Equity Outreach VISTA will work closely with the Director of Development and Communications and the Health Equity Program Coordinator to support implementation and growth of both initiatives, creating pathways that connect high barrier populations and improve overall health equity in DuPage County, IL.
