Public Health AmeriCorps - DD Life Skills Education
 
 
 
Responsible for providing supportive, educational, and recreational activities within the DD programs specific to residents’ needs and interests. Shows respect for participants’ abilities and culture. Facilitates individual and group activities with participants geared toward increasing capacity in interpersonal communication, problem solving, self-care, hygiene, motor skills, recreation, cooking skills, etc. Per MANDT training, provides crisis de-escalation when needed. In the Life Skills Education program, provides day-to-day classroom activities to I/DD participants under the direction of the Life Skills Education Supervisor/ Lead Instructor.

Member Duties : 1. Facilitates individual and group activities with CILA residents geared toward increasing capacity in areas such as interpersonal communication, problem solving, self-care, hygiene, recreation, health and wellness, cooking skills, nutrition, etc. 2. Assists CILA shift staff in supporting residents in daily routines, completing tasks, and working toward their goals. 3. Supports participants to resolve any conflicts that arise and provides crisis de-escalation per MANDT training. 4. Assists LSE with activities related to Special Olympics and special events. 5. Assists LSE with the day-to-day instruction to participants in the following areas: motor skills, social & communication skills, personal living skills, and community living skills as specified in the participant’s ISP. 6. Engages participants individually to pursue their specific interests.
