Early Childhood Teacher Corps
 
 
 
The Early Childhood Teacher Corps (ECTC) is designed to support school readiness of vulnerable children while offering a pipeline into the early education profession. Partnering with early care and education programs, the Early Childhood Teacher Corps will serve 15 Half Time AmeriCorps members in Orleans Parish. Early Childhood Teacher Corps (ECTC) member will provide targeted literacy, language, and math activities for children ages 0-4 enrolled in the early childhood program as well as support all facets of child learning and development to lead teachers within their assigned classroom placements. Upon program completion, members will gain paid work experience, complete their CDA training, receive support for ongoing job placement in an early childhood classroom, and provide quality teacher-child interactions for children served. The primary responsibility of the ECTC member is to assist the lead teacher in all aspects of the children's daily care and education routines. This includes providing assistance with supervision, management, and guidance of a classroom of children, as well as preparation for daily activities. The ECTC member reports to the Lead Teacher. This is a Part time position serving 900 hours and will receive $12,600 in a living allowance during the service term. As a member you will also receive an education award upon successful completion of service. You will also receive mileage reimbursement. Childcare assistance is available if eligible.

Member Duties : Organizes and provides developmentally appropriate early childhood education programs. Implements activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem solving appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of children. Plans and prepares classroom setting; supports Lead Teacher in the classroom; supports an environment in which children can learn and practice appropriate and acceptable individual and group behaviors. Interacts with parents and community groups; maintains open and cooperative communication with parents and families that encourages program involvement and support. Writes and compiles individual assessments of each child's development; completes daily inventories, child attendance, and related reports. Attend all training sessions and mandatory meetings.Complete and submit accurate and timely documentation of AmeriCorps service hours.
