AmeriCorps Tutor Leader

READ USA's tutoring program is a one-to-one instructional model a systematic, supportive reading curriculum wherein students choose from a selection of fiction and nonfiction leveled books each lesson. The components of each lesson include a rich book introduction, reading a continuous text, a deep discussion of the text, letter and word work, and writing about reading. Incorporated in these lesson components are about print, letter learning, phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, literal and higher-order comprehension, letter formation, writing mechanics, grammar, spelling, and composing and constructing a written message. Elementary students in the program are identified by need based on current district data, primarily through district progress monitoring assessments and Florida State Assessment scores. Tutoring lessons are 45 minutes long and are provided 3 to 4 days per week, mostly after school hours.
