Nourish Iowa: Marketing and Education VISTA

Feed Iowa First (FIF) is a grass-roots community of business, faith organizations, schools, farmers, and volunteers that unite in relationship-based service to help our neighbors to ‘Combat Food Insecurity by Growing Food and Farmers’. We believe access to fresh, healthy produce can and does transform lives. Fresh, healthy food is a basic human right, and ensuring access to it is key to building vibrant communities where citizens can reach their full human potential. FIF is the main producer and provider of fresh produce to food pantries in Linn County. We distributed over 50,000lbs of nutrient-dense produce back into our community in 2021. After the 2020 Derecho, we had the unique ability to pivot and directly meet the needs of our most vulnerable Linn County residents. As a Nourish Iowa VISTA member, you will serve among a cohort of members whose service is building a more equitable food system in Iowa. You will have frequent opportunities to share knowledge within this community through cohort-wide meetings & site visits. In addition to all standard VISTA benefits, you will engage regularly with leaders in food systems via local, statewide, and national coalitions and associations, in addition to professional development opportunities coordinated by a VISTA Leader in your cohort. Nourish Iowa members are also eligible for free enrollment in Iowa State University's Local Food Leader certification course. Please visit our website for more openings and information about current living allowance rates and benefits.

Member Duties : As a Marketing and Education VISTA at Feed Iowa First, you will lead the development and implementation of a marketing plan which increases awareness and generates program visibility, educates the public, and builds long- term partnerships. Through your service, you will strengthen relationships with clients, grow FIF’s volunteer and donor capacity to effect systemic change on food insecurity & access, land access for populations underrepresented in the farming profession, and community cohesion in the Cedar Rapids metro area. By the end of your term, you will have generated a social media system that is integrated with marketing which helps FIF meet the growing food access needs in the community and establish a consistent “class” schedule of nutrition education programming to offer to students and the public. You will also complete service having developed a portfolio of social media and marketing materials and become adept at reaching diverse audiences through social media
