AmeriCorps Community Food Fellow - UGA 24-25
 
 
 
The University of Georgia Office of Service-Learning (OSL) seeks motivated applicants interested in addressing food insecurity in the community as an AmeriCorps Community Food Fellow. Community Food Fellows will address food issues in collaboration with on- and off-campus partner organizations and provide direct support for food security and production, anti-hunger, and food waste reduction initiatives. Responsibilities include training (Learning about local and national issues related to food insecurity, food waste, and sustainable food production; developing skills and experience related to food production, preparation, and safety; completing required UGA and AmeriCorps training); Community Engagement (direct and indirect service in support of local and campus partner organizations and initiatives; supporting community and campus outreach events and activities; volunteer recruitment and management in support of program and partner goals); AmeriCorps Program Support (completing required record-keeping and reporting; communication and program evaluation). Community Food Fellows serve for a year as either half-time or quarter-time AmeriCorps Service Members as part of a group of up to 22 Fellows. Members begin in September and are required to log a total of 900 hours (half-time, averaging 20 hours/week) or 450 hours (quarter-time, averaging 10 hours/week). Applicants must also apply via UGA's portal at ugajobsearch.com. Interest in food issues and experience serving as a volunteer or leading a service experience is preferred. Applications from UGA undergraduate and graduate students, as well as external applicants are encouraged. Members receive a small living allowance (about $10,000 for the entire year half-time, or $5,000 quarter-time) and an end of service education award or stipend from AmeriCorps. Criminal history background checks are required of all applicants.

This includes training (learning about local and national issues related to food insecurity, food waste, and sustainable food production; developing skills and experience related to food production, preparation, and safety; completing required UGA and AmeriCorps training); Community Engagement (direct and indirect service in support of local and campus partner organizations and initiatives; supporting community and campus outreach events and activities; volunteer recruitment and management in support of program and partner goals); and AmeriCorps Program Support (completing required record-keeping and reporting; communication and program evaluation).
