Member Duties : Create a system to analyze facilities to determine their effectiveness as emergency community shelters. Research emergency shelter protocols and laws to determine the requirements for effective emergency shelters. Use the gathered data to develop an assessment to grade potential new emergency shelter sites.
Identify areas of Austin that would most benefit from emergency shelters, especially areas with low-income populations. Select 10 to 15 Austin-area facilities as potential sites to establish a new emergency shelter. Identify what modifications would be required to make the facility fully resilient, as well as utility connections and redundant power needs.
Open one new emergency shelter or information/assistance center in the Austin area.
