Food Access VISTA - Double Up Food Bucks: Capital Region
 
 
 
Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) is a SNAP nutrition incentive program that allows SNAP users to receive a $1 for $1 match on eligible SNAP purchases for the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables. Currently, the DUFB program has grown to be in 36 counties and over 230+ farmers market, mobile market, grocery, small retail, and farm stand locations. VISTAs will implement more diverse and effective outreach strategies to encourage low-income individuals to take advantage of DUFB. Ensuring adequate understanding of the importance of nutrition incentive programs from the community and local partners will create a more robust program and help bring individuals out of poverty.

Member Duties : Our VISTA members will be serving in areas with high food insecurity to connect SNAP participants to community services and conduct capacity building outreach activities in and around Albany, NY with Capital Roots, a local nonprofit focused on nourishing local communities by providing access to fresh, affordable foods. Primary responsibilities of the Double Up Food Bucks Outreach VISTA Member: - Identify and assess barriers to food access among residents of Albany - Support implementation of a DUFB Community Ambassador pilot project - Enhance regional network of food system focused community partners - Coordinate outreach to increase awareness of DUFB and promote its use - Provide operational support to existing DUFB retailers to increase utilization - Identify prospective retailers who may be interested in offering DUFB
