Community Engagement Specialist [MCN] [Open Cupboard]

Open Cupboard’s mission is to provide nutritious food to our neighbors in a respectful manner and engage our community in the fight against hunger. We currently provide fresh food to over 4,000 households each week. The majority of people we serve are from Maplewood, Oakdale, Woodbury, and the East Side of St. Paul. While we are located in Oakdale, we are open to anyone in need of food, regardless of where they live. In our Today’s Harvest markets, we offer fresh, healthy food donated each day from local grocery stores. The Community Engagement Specialist will work on expanding our food rescue donors, focusing on culturally specific grocers and farms. They will also support volunteer recruitment and engagement, including increasing the number of BIPOC and bilingual volunteers. This work will include creating new volunteer opportunities throughout all of our programs.

Member Duties : The Community Engagement Specialist will create a volunteer orientation guide and several volunteer training and recruitment videos. Together with Open Cupboard staff and volunteers, they will work on updating the current volunteer job descriptions, application, and website. They will also increase the number of bilingual and BIPOC volunteers through community outreach, including identifying and working with prospective partners. The Community Engagement Specialist will also reach out to prospective food rescue donors. They will research and connect with culturally specific grocers in the East Metro to increase the amount of culturally relevant food available in our markets. They will work with both prospective partners and Second Harvest Heartland to explain and establish the food rescue program. They will also create new volunteer positions to pick up food rescue from new partners.
