Community Engagement Coordinator - Wake County HHS

The main objective of the Community Engagement Coordinator VISTA with Wake County Health and Human Services’ assignment is to help create a comprehensive food security ecosystem to improve the quality of life and services of low-income seniors in Western Wake County. The three main goals of the assignment are: 1. Expand services to low -income seniors in marginalized communities. 2. Increase access to healthy and nutritious food and other supportive care for low-income seniors. 3. Help to create a regional network of care to ensure the health and well-being of low-income seniors. Some of the current challenges faced by low-income seniors is a low fixed income competing with increasing prescription and housing costs. This program intends to leverage existing partner organizations' resources to collaborate regionally and engage new partners that can provide resources such as food boxes. The VISTA will collaborate to establish partnerships thus gaining Government, non-profit and faith-based experience along with grassroot organizing. The VISTA will work with approximately ten community partner organizations. The work of the VISTA may create capacity for possible grant funding to sustain with community partner organizations as the regional network of care is developed over the next 3-5 years. The needed talents of this VISTA are also applicable for future positions to be created by WCHHS for the new Western Regional Center. All activities that support or become a regional approach to food security for low-income seniors will become the work of the WRCAC, specific partners actively involved in the Western Regional Network of Care and or WHHS and Town partners.
