Inter-Faith Food Shuttle Community Health Education VISTA
The Community Health Education VISTA will support the Inter-Faith Shuttle efforts to build stronger community networks and partners, increase overall reach into marginalized and traditionally excluded groups of people and will develop outreach materials and resources to be accessible to a wider range of people. The purpose of the Community Health Education program is to support community-led initiatives to increase knowledge around health and wellness through a stigma-free and inclusive lens. The Inter-Faith Shuttles does this by offering tailored and unique educational programming based on the wants and needs of the communities they serve. The VISTA will support the Community Health Education program manager with activities throughout Wake County including developing lesson plans, conducting outreach to new program partners and sites, attending health fairs, attending local events to spread the word about community health education at the Food Shuttle, creating passive education and flyers, and researching alternative and innovative ways to impact the community, as well as designing trainings for partners to be able to do this work themselves in a train the trainer style. The VISTA member will assist with the outreach necessary for partners to know the services offered by the Food Shuttle as an active member of the community and will assist to develop “train the trainer” services to increase the number of satellite partners who feel they have adequate training and support to offer education on behalf of the Food Shuttle to their community members. These increased partners/stronger network will allow the Food Shuttle to expand its services.
