Inter Faith Food Shuttle Agriculture Education VISTA

The goal of the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle Agriculture Education Program is to increase food access through education. The Growing School Gardens program provides support to over 300 students (grades K-5) per school year in seven schools across Wake and Durham counties, delivering a curriculum that has been designed around NC teaching standards. The objective of the Agriculture Education VISTA assignment is to expand the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s offer of mobile programming including activities to offer educational materials to be taught off-site, and with the potential to expand the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s current resources and offerings to their programs, building stronger community networks and partners, and making new partnerships with other agriculture related organizations and businesses within Wake County. The VISTA tasks would include conducting community surveys to assess buy-in (meeting with stakeholders to assess interest/need on workshop topics/program offerings), curriculum development and design (for both youth and adults), initial support with event planning, community engagement, and may include garden maintenance.
