Community Development Impact Assessment and Operations

The Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is the NYC government's chief financial agency. OMB's staff of analysts and experts assembles and oversees the Mayor’s expense and capital budgets, which fund the services and activities of approximately 70 City agencies. OMB’s office is in lower Manhattan. The Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) is a vital federal funding source. The role of the grant, a program of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, is to provide decent housing, a suitable living environment, and economic opportunities for low- and-moderate-income persons. NYC allocates its annual CDBG award to approximately 50 programs across 20 agencies, and CDBG funding is used to help communities recover from specific events and disasters. The VISTA member will be a part of the Community Development Block Grant – Entitlement and disaster Recovery Task Force, a passionate team dedicated to serving the people of NYC who benefit from this funding the most. The goal of our team and this project is to improve operations and elicit better outcomes, both within city government and particularly for the persons in the community most impacted by the CDBG programs. The project will allow for a multitude of skill building and an introduction to multiple technological systems to better shape related information and operations. This VISTA position is a part of the NYC VISTA program, a group of 25+ VISTA members serving in New York City Government agencies supporting their anti-poverty work. The NYC VISTA program is administered by NYC Service, a division of the Office of the Mayor. This position is supervised directly by a city agency staff member and will be a part of the larger NYC VISTA community.
