PCEI: Moscow Adventure Club Outdoor Science Education Lead
 
 
 
GAIN VALUABLE EXPERIENCE TEACHING KIDS ABOUT NATURE! The Outdoor Science Education Lead will develop and/or gather outdoor science lessons and activities targeting K-5th graders. The position will run for 13 weeks from late May through August. The member will have three (3) weeks of planning and staff training time before the Summer Adventure Club Program begins. The member will first work in the afterschool program to become familiar with program procedures, develop lessons and work w/afterschool staff. The lessons will be a combination of science exploration, arts and crafts, and games focused on the natural environment. Outdoor science activities will fill approximately 2-3 hours of each day. If field trips are taken, each trip will last 2-8 hours. Two hours per summer week may be used for planning and prepping the outdoor science activities. The remaining hours of service will be spent outdoors with students. The Outdoor Science Education Lead will also be the primary staff going to the University of Idaho’s Climbing Center and will assist w/trips to Paradise Ridge. Member Benefits Include: •A taxable living allowance totaling $4,500, paid over the term of service. •Upon successful completion of a term of service, eligible members receive an education award in the amount of $1,718.25 that can be used to repay qualified student loans or for further education in an accredited institution of higher learning, vocational or trade schools. •Loan forbearance (after successful completion of a term of service, AmeriCorps will pay the accrued interest on qualified loans, which is taxable.) •Childcare allowance for those who qualify. •Professional development, trainings and networking opportunities. •Qualified individuals with disabilities and those from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. Member Duties : Requirements: • Must be U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident. • Must possess high school diploma/equivalent. • Must be fluent in English. • Must be able to commit to the full term of service. • Must successfully pass a fingerprint criminal history background check. • Must have cooperative manner & ability to serve as part of a diverse team. • Must have regular and reliable attendance and dependability. Preferred Skills & Qualifications: • Experience developing and leading outdoor science activities and ability to adapt lessons to the school campus or nature field trip setting. • Experience working w/groups of children in an afterschool or camp setting. •Has a passion for nature and science. •Has or is pursuing a degree in natural resources, environmental science, or other natural science field would be preferred.
