2023-2024 Community Outreach VISTA

The Community Outreach VISTA will be hosted by Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County, located in Sycamore, Illinois. Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Homeowners are able to partner with Habitat to build a home that provides strength, stability and independence for their family. The Community Outreach VISTA will serve as an important team member for communication with volunteers, Habitat staff, committee members, and the Board of Directors. Volunteers are vital to the success of Habitat’s mission, and the Community Outreach VISTA is essential to successfully engaging volunteers and community members with Habitat projects. This is an opportunity to make a real impact on the lives of others while increasing your own professional experiences and career-building skills. The Community Outreach VISTA focuses on networking and building relationships and partnerships with community residents, local organizations, college students, and stakeholders to grow Habitat’s overall volunteer base.

Member Duties : The Community Outreach VISTA helps recruit, train, schedule, and recognize local volunteers. They support and enhance all aspects of volunteer management, including initial orientation, database maintenance and tracking, and promoting volunteer opportunities as they arise. Additionally, they network with community organizations and faith community groups to grow and sustain partnerships to strengthen the community at large. The Community Outreach VISTA will also evaluate existing volunteer and community outreach practices and develop a written plan to improve volunteer recruitment, communication, recognition, tracking hours of service, and safety protocol. Additional duties include developing communications and marketing for new and existing construction projects and working with construction staff to ensure successful volunteer build days.
