Learn more about the program on Housing Action’s website: housingactionil.org/americorps. Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County works with local families who struggle to obtain affordable housing. Homeowners are able to partner with Habitat to build a home that provides strength, stability and independence for their family. The Program development VISTA will serve as an important team member with Habitat staff, committee members, and the Board of Directors. The Program Development VISTA would serve an essential role in supporting our mission of increasing affordable housing in DeKalb County. During their service year, they will oversee the implementation of A Brush With Kindness (ABWK) program and provide support for the construction manager with the partner family home build. ABWK helps preserve affordable housing by offering exterior home maintenance assistance for low-income families, elderly, and individuals with disabilities who are struggling to do the maintenance themselves. ABWK projects include exterior painting, light landscaping, and yard cleanup. The Program Development VISTA will need to be organized with a basic understanding of construction-related terms.
