Early Learning VISTA

University Temple Children’s School (UTCS) is a nonprofit early learning center located in the heart of Seattle’s University District since 1970! Our program moved to a new location in the University Heights Center in 2020 when our previous home of 50 years was demolished due to rapid redevelopment in the area. We are currently expanding our program and as part of that expansion, we are prioritizing 50% of our spots for families using subsidies. This is a shift for our program which has largely been private pay for a majority of its existence, and we want to ensure that all families who enroll their children in our program are vital members of our community who feel welcomed and supported. The U.S. is undergoing a national child care shortage. In King County, there are currently enough licensed child care facilities to care for an estimated 21% of children who need it. Due to this ongoing crisis, it is difficult for families to find any care, let alone quality and affordable child care. Research shows that high quality early childhood education makes a generational impact, especially for marginalized communities, and adds value long term to individuals lives and to the overall health of our society. This makes our work of providing affordable high quality child care more critical than ever. Our school’s commitment to serving under-resourced families in our community will improve many children’s chances at higher education and create a more diverse and equitable student population in the future. We seek a passionate, detail-oriented, and organized VISTA member who is an advocate for families and children. Our VISTA member will work with the administrative team on three key areas: outreach/community partnerships; social media/marketing strategies; Anti-bias support/professional development. Anticipated start date: August/September 2024. Housing support available. Visit our website at utcs.org.
