St. Louis Park Comm. Ed. - Volunteer Engagement VISTA

The Minnesota Alliance With Youth VISTA program places members in nonprofits, government, and schools to create, connect, and leverage resources to address education inequities such as the opportunity and achievement gaps. We build capacity, coordinate integration of school and community-wide support for youth, and actively engage youth as agents of change. Our cohort meets regularly for professional development, team building, and peer support. This position is placed at St. Louis Park Public Schools Community Education. The Volunteer Program serves students and staff in St. Louis Park Public Schools from our earliest learners to our oldest adults in 4 Elementary schools, one Middle School, one High School and two Community Centers. Volunteers are uniquely positioned to work directly with students and staff to help bridge opportunity and education gaps so students can achieve academic success. The Volunteer Engagement VISTA will help assess, evaluate, and sustain the Volunteer Program by recruiting, training and placing volunteers; creating partnerships in the community; and securing funding to sustain the program.

Member Duties : The Volunteer Engagement VISTA will work closely with the Adult Programs Manager at the Lenox Community Center to assess and build capacity in the Volunteer Program. This will be accomplished by: Placing Volunteers: Connecting with staff and students to identify needs; placing returning volunteers; and recruiting, training and placing new volunteers. Assess the past program to identify areas of growth, create partnerships, and develop manuals and handbooks to guide our work. Research and apply for grants, identify in kind resources, and recommend future financial opportunities to sustain the Volunteer Program. Attend meetings and professional development opportunities to learn about the St. Louis Park School District’s mission for Racial Equity Transformation. We believe that racial consciousness and cultural competence are essential to each person’s ability to be a catalyst for change.
