2023-2024 Program & Operations VISTA

This Program & Operations VISTA will be hosted by Share Our Spare located in Chicago, IL. Share Our Spare is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Share Our Spare (SOS) ensures every child, ages 0-5, in the Chicago area has the essential items they need to support their health and development and equip them for a strong start. We do this by collecting new and gently used infant and toddler items from those with “extras” to spare and distributing them to families living in poverty through a sustainable network of volunteers, community stakeholders, and social service agencies. With a distribution network of more than 75 agency partners, we are supporting social workers across Lake, Cook, and DuPage counties and providing essential items to more than 10,000 children annually. Share Our Spare (SOS) seeks a highly motivated, versatile, and socially conscious Programs and Operations VISTA to join our team. This role will work with the Director of Partnerships and Community Engagement to create programmatic and organizational growth opportunities. Additionally, this role will deepen SOS’s impact by using data-driven research to inform improved structures and processes. The ideal candidate will work well on a team, have experience with computers and Google Drive applications, be a solutions-oriented thinker, and have strong writing and editing skills.

Member Duties : VISTA will be responsible for researching, learning, creating, and proposing enhancements and pilots to increase our base of knowledge to fuel improvements in our existing core program model and coalition; collecting and operationalizing feedback from our agency partners and extended network of stakeholders to build stronger relationships and improve upon the services we provide to increase impact and reach;and creating educational materials that build upon our foundation and articulate the connection between our work and social determinants of health and the attainment of developmental milestones. They will also conduct research and write policy reports on behalf of the Illinois Diaper Bank Coalition members that would reduce diaper need and rates of housing insecurity and homelessness. At the end of service, they will outline next steps and lessons learned to continue developing each aspect of the project
