2023-2024 Financial Literacy Development VISTA

The Financial Literacy Development VISTA will be hosted by Spanish Coalition for Housing located in Chicago. Spanish Coalition for Housing (SCH) is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Learn more about the program on Housing Action’s website: housingactionil.org/americorps. SCH is a HUD-approved Housing Counseling Agency that provides pertinent and comprehensive counseling, education, and housing resources to low-income residents throughout Chicagoland, including financial literacy training and other important life skills. Our mission is to create generational wealth in our communities through stable and affordable housing. SCH is a local and national leader in the housing counseling sector and continues to innovate its service delivery and expand its target market presence. We deliver quality programs and compassionate service to all residents in need. The Financial Literacy Development VISTA will research and design a partnership strategy to identify hard to reach populations outside of SCH’s historic service population, who are most in need of financial literacy training. Based on data collected, they will identify creative outreach solutions and potential partnerships to reach target populations. Applicants must have a dedication to and interest in the mission of SCH. The ideal candidate will have strong communications and research skills and/or an interest in developing these skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required for this position. Through this project, the VISTA will develop critical soft and hard skill sets of nonprofit and public sector professionals and become a competitive candidate for their next steps professionally.
