2023 Social Media and Donation Coordinator Summer Associate

The Social Media and Donation Coordinator will be hosted by Genesis Garden in Macomb, Illinois, an Amtrak community and home of Western Illinois University. Genesis Garden is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Genesis Garden is a grassroots organization in rural Illinois that is dedicated to helping our neighbors achieve their goals and develop resiliency to sustain safe, affordable housing. We value a strengths- and asset-based framework and address the effects of poverty through a proactive, preventative, and compassionate approach. Our mission focuses on sharing food and providing shelter to empower communities in Macomb and McDonough County, which have some of the highest poverty rates in Illinois. Genesis Garden supports individuals and families navigating housing crises by offering immediate and short-term accommodation while families build their path to permanent housing. During your summer of service, as the Social Media and Donation Coordinator you will raise awareness and engagement in our community through social media; develop a gently-used household goods donation program; recruit volunteers; and collaborate with staff, volunteers and neighbors as we work to make Macomb a community where homelessness is rare and short-lived. The ideal candidate is creative and shares a love for people. They should demonstrate skills and interest in design, marketing, project coordination, and community outreach.

Member Duties : The Social Media and Donation Coordinator will be responsible for developing social media messages, marketing materials, and a calendar to engage more of the community with our organization. They will also recruit and manage volunteers and donors for a fledgling household goods donation program to support families transitioning from a housing crisis to stable housing. Additionally, they will learn how to see and call forward the strengths, assets, and skills of people in our community by engaging with residents in Genesis Garden’s Family Shelter and other housing programs.
